“We are spiritual beings having a human experience.” ~ Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, French philosopher

Greetings Earth Beings!

If you are here for The Great Awakening, you have come to the right place. If you dream of a better world and know in your heart that it’s possible—yet struggle with the current circumstances, both collective and individual—welcome.

I share that vision: a harmonious world in which all are included and live in balance, allowing for the highest expression of humanity’s potential. My mission is to provide soulful psychotherapy at the individual level, inspiring and supporting healing, integration, and transformation into alignment with your Higher Self (True Self, Authentic Self or Self, note the capital S).

I do this by working in the center of the venn diagram where the best of science and spirituality meet, offering evidence-based therapies alongside practices like mindfulness meditation, ritual release, and wisdom teachings from the ancients, ascended masters, and icons of change.

Above all, I encourage clients to access their innate knowing, build trust within themselves, discover their strengths and act with courage. This empowers a shift from feeling “things are happening to me” and beyond my control, to recognizing “things are happening for me” as catalysts for my growth and self-realization. Now that is a powerful paradigm shift.

About

My Story

Greetings,

In all honesty therapy saved my life. When I was a teenager my mother died. As devastating as that was, that singular event both transformed and inspired my life towards a path of healing. Like the phoenix that rises from its ashes, I know first-hand the power of the human spirit to overcome utmost adversity. Because caring people, both within the health profession and otherwise helped me during a time of great need, I was able to heal and thrive. This journey created the story of my life and now I am able to give back. From my heart to yours, that is why I do this work.

This is also why I am particularly drawn towards working with teens as well as with adults facing grief and loss of any kind. Indeed, grief and loss is the hallmark experience that unites us all in this human life, yet it leads us to appreciate the time we have together more fully.

Moreover, I deeply believe that true health is an integration of body, mind and spirit. In support of this, I earned a Masters Degree in Holistic Counseling Psychology from JFK University and am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) in private practice. Since then, I have spent over 10 years primarily working with children, teens and families, as well as adults in crisis, many of whom faced more than their share of grief and loss. Valuing creativity, I attained a certificate in Expressive Arts Therapy; an excellent toolset which allows greater self-expression beyond talk therapy. More recently I was trained in EMDR, a highly effective treatment method for addressing trauma, anxiety and depression. Finally, I am committed to the path of mindfulness, which evolves from of Buddhist psychology and am passionate about teaching clients how to make use of these practical ways to find peace and balance.

Life is a constant process of change and with this comes our suffering. Yet suffering contains within itself the path to the way out. If we look deeply into it, understand it fully with compassion, our suffering will open and become a way to freedom. By working through our suffering we can receive a gift; we can be transformed and empowered by it. We begin to write a new script for our lives with a greater sense of self and purpose.

If you feel drawn towards working with me, contact me for a free consultation. It would be an honor to meet you. May you find your true healing and your joy.

Highest Regards,

Julia Barokov

About Therapy

What therapy is like in general:

Therapy is a process whereby the therapist assists the client in working through the chief complaint(s) that brings the client to therapy. Typically clients see a therapist once per week for a 50 minute session, sometimes more or less regularly depending on each individual’s needs. Therapy could last anywhere between several sessions to several years. This all depends on the client, the therapist and their progress together. Of course, the client is free to terminate therapy at any point with no obligation to stay.

In general, there is a beginning phase where the client and therapist determine the issue, any contributing factors and what has already been tried to address it. During the middle stage of therapy, the therapist and client work together in a variety of ways to empower the client in managing the issue. In the final stage of therapy, the issue is resolved or the client no longer sees the issue as a problem. This is when the therapist and client come to closure and therapy ends. In essence, the whole point of therapy is to make it no longer necessary!
